Whilst circulating the class they would remind students of correct posture when writing, expectations (slant letters forward, correct pencil strokes), picking out students 'best' letters and encouraging students through this 'dry' lesson time with a bit of entertainment. Lessons prior to Wilbur and Wilma were compared to ascertain if the presence of these puppets adversely affected lesson standards - which they did not.

Archimedes bathUsing Archimedes Bath written by Pamela Allen, displacement of liquid was demonstrated. Minor changes included using toys similar to the characters in the story. After the story was read, students observed as each toy entered the 'bath' (container of water), and ending with my gloved hand that had been drawn into Mr Archimedes with a swim suit on!
Students were asked to write and illustrate what they had enjoyed from my teaching. Evidence: Student feedback on maths lesson. Science - Water WorksHands on experiences were included in this program.
Students were asked to use their senses to describe water in a cup. Students were grouped for outdoor experimentation with water on different surfaces. Visual sources from the internet were also used to instruct - using short videos on the water cycle. Audio sources were used in the form of a song on water cycle. I also dressed up with a white coat, glasses, lanyard and carried a clipboard. I ran into the class at the beginning of a session exciting the kids by saying that I am back from headquarters and they are very happy with all our experiments and want us to continue our great work! The students were thrilled to bits and were engaged for all the lesson despite being in the afternoon! Evidence: Science Water Works notebook lessons Student feedback at end of practical |
